A good goal would be to read for 20 minutes every day. Making use of the public library system would be very beneficial for your child. It would also be a good idea to review basic math operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Keeping on top of those basic skills will help your child to have a great start in 5th grade.<br /><br />It’s also very important for your child to continue studying God’s Word over the summer. Not only will regular studying of God’s Word help your child to resist the devil’s temptations, but it provides the Holy Spirit an opportunity to strengthen your child’s faith. We’d love for your child and any others you know to join us and learn about the love that Jesus has for all the little children.<br /><br /><strong>Holy Week</strong> – Next week is Holy Week. Church services are Maundy Thursday at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. and Good Friday at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. Easter Sunday service times are 7:30, 8:45, and 11:15 a.m. An Easter brunch will be served after the 7:30 and 8:45 services.<br /><br /><strong>Encouragement to Stay for Worship</strong> - Worship services are an important part of our school’s educational program, as was explained prior to enrollment. Worshipping is an outflow or response of faith, which we are nurturing through the school, therefore we strongly urge families to attend worship and stay for the whole service when the children come to sing. An additional problem occurs when people leave during the service as it is disruptive to worshippers and can also give the impression that worship is not important; we don’t want that message to be given to the children or other worshippers. An ideal snack would be apple slices and some sort of crackers – no cookies or sweets. Please let me know if you’d be willing to provide a small snack.<br /><br /><strong>Christmas Vacation</strong> – The Christmas break begins after school this Friday, December 19th, and goes until January 4th. I noticed<br />that many of you signed up for some of the same things such as plates, cups, and napkins and<br />also for soda. Those are definitely needed, but since we have several duplicates, I hope that some of you won’t mind if the lunch coordinators contact you and ask you to bring something else. The lessons review the spelling patterns and words from units 7-11. We will not have a pretest! Books always make great Christmas gifts! There are books for both children and adults! Purchasing books at the book fair is also a great way to help raise money to purchase books for our classroom libraries!<br /><br /><strong>“Fun-raiser”</strong> – This Thursday, November 20th, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., you are invited to help support our school and get to know Apostles’ friends and neighbors at Chevy’s on Almaden Expressway. Apostles will earn 25% of the meals purchased. In order to qualify, your purchase must be accompanied by the official flier. If you do not have the flier that was sent home with your child a couple weeks ago, please stop by the office and pick up another one. Also, please pass along a flier to your friends and relatives who might be interested in supporting our school as well.<br /><br /><strong>Thanksgiving Break</strong> - Next week will be a short week due to Thanksgiving. On Wednesday, November 26th, school will dismiss at noon. Thursday and Friday there is no school of course!<br /><br /><strong>Substitute Teacher</strong> – I will not be here next week, the two and a half days before Thanksgiving break, so someone will be subbing for me. I will be meeting up with my parents and brother from Wisconsin and joining them on a family vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
